Molly Drummond is cursed: whenever a dog barks, she turns into a hare -- which can make life quite dangerous... So she does the sensible thing and attends a curse-lifting workshop, run by a local witch. There she meets other cursed creatures: Innes, a kelpie; Beth, a dryad; Atacama, a sphinx; and a toad. But should they work together to lift their various curses? Or are they better off on their own? And will the crow-man, who draws on the energy of curses, destroy their chances to live a normal life? By the author of the bestselling Fabled Beasts Chronicles series, this is the dramatic first installment in the brand new, long-awaited Spellchasers trilogy. Lari Don has once again created a world of brilliant magic, dark danger and sparkling friendship which will enchant children of upper primary age. Have you ever just wanted to sit down and read something about God or Jesus just to get closer to him to know him more intimately or to expand your understanding of his creation and plan for you? So you find a book that advertises just the subject matter you are interested in, then you open it and begin to read, but before long, you realize you have to run and get the dictionary. Then you may have to purchase a dictionary of theology, then maybe an encyclopedia of Christian apologetics just to understand what you are reading. When this happens, readers often give up on the book and never finish it and may never buy another one. It can get discouraging when confronted with terminology like infralapsarianism, hamartiology, and demythologization, and that doesn't include the hundreds of nontheological words rarely used in common communication today. Authors write this way to keep the book from becoming the size of an encyclopedia. However, I did buy all those books and persevered in study because of my great hunger for the deeper things of God. Now you can too because this book conveys these wonderful biblical thoughts and great theologians' writings into plain common language. The Doctrine of Salvation takes deep theological concepts and brings their understanding down to a street level as it were. This book describes on a practical level how these doctrines are to be applied to our lives and how we can relate them to others. I refrain from using thirteen-letter words, but if they are needed, I will use them and then immediately clarify their meaning so the reader will not lose their train of thought. Enjoy reading about the wonders of God again, in greater depth!

A stirring, witty, and poignant glimpse into the bewildering American immigrant experience from someone who has lived it. Also, a mirror held up to America. Into the maelstrom of unprecedented contemporary debates about immigrants in the United States, this perfectly timed book gives us a portrait of what the new immigrant experience in America is really like. Written as a "guide" for the newly arrived, and providing "practical information and advice," Roya Hakakian, an immigrant herself, reveals what those who settle here love about the country, what they miss about their homes, the cruelty of some Americans, and the unceasing generosity of others. She captures the texture of life in a new place in all its complexity, laying bare both its beauty and its darkness as she discusses race, sex, love, death, consumerism, and what it is like to be from a country that is in America's crosshairs. Her tenderly perceptive and surprisingly humorous account invites us to see ourselves as we appear to others, making it possible for us to rediscover our many American gifts through the perspective of the outsider. In shattering myths and embracing painful contradictions that are unique to this place, A Beginner's Guide to America is Hakakian's candid love letter to America.
